YOU Decide How Much to Give - Bequest

YOU Decide How Much to Give - Bequest

Andrew Axtman lived his whole life in Rugby, North Dakota, farming on the family's homestead south of town. He worked hard and was very philanthropic, sharing what he had with the community he loved so much. He wanted Rugby to be prosperous and he wanted to help local charities. His final gift will benefit residents of his hometown forever.

Axtman left a $35,000 gift to the Rugby Community Endowment Fund in his will. A second estate gift of $7,000 was also left to the Rugby fund that same year.

These gifts and others received this year will provide grant money for projects and programs in Rugby for generations.

"Because the Rugby Community Endowment Fund is a permanent fund, the principle is never spent," explains Galen Mack, chair of the Rugby fund's local Advisory Committee. "Andrew's gift and others like it will generate interest every year that will provide grants to our community's nonprofits forever. He has left an incredible legacy in Rugby."

If you would like to leave a specific gift to a fund at NDCF, sample language to include in your will is below. NDCF suggests that you consult an attorney in the drafting of your will.

"I give and bequeath to the North Dakota Community Foundation (Tax ID Number 45-0336015), a qualified charitable organization under IRS 501(c)(3), located in Bismarck, North Dakota, ___________ (a percentage of the estate, specific dollar amount, or remainder of estate) to the ___________________(name of fund(s) at NDCF), a permanent component of the North Dakota Community Foundation."
